Denise Crosby Talked to My Baby!! (25 weeks)

If you don't know who Denise Crosby is or why she was a guest of honor riding in convertible down Peachtree on Saturday morning, you just may not get as much from this post as some of my other readers. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

On Saturday morning, we got up and went downtown for the fifth annual Dragon*Con parade. Dragon*Con is the huge sci-fi/fantasy/comics/horror/all things geek "con"ference that takes over downtown Atlanta every Labor Day weekend. Apparently it is one of the largest in the world; Dragon*Con organizers expected 25,000 participants. Now, Aaron and I are geeks -- we know this and that is just a cross our child will have to bear. However, we aren't big enough geeks that we paid to get in the con to see all the costumes that attendees wear. We went to the free parade instead. In the pictures you can see Zeke and me in front of the 501st Legion of Storm Troopers and then a gang of Klingon biker chicks.

Denise Crosby was in a convertible right in front of the Klingons. She waved right at Zeke and said "Hi, Sweetie! Hi, Cutie!" So, Lieutenant Tasha Yar of Enterprise also seems to validate the universal cuteness of my baby.

Also in the parade (somewhat inexplicably to me) was Mickey Rooney and his latest wife. The parade also featured: Hogwarts wizards, Colonial Marines, Farscapers, Browncoats from Serenity, Cobra, Ghostbusters, pirates probably not from the Carribbean, superheroes, hobbits and elves, Wallace and Gromit, tons of denizens from a galaxy far far away, and a dozen Dr. Who's.

Zeke was very popular among the pirates who festooned him with beads and then gave him pirate coins and chocolate. He was really wide-eyed and paying attention to the parade. Afterwards we walked towards one of the three downtown hotels taken over by the event. I loved seeing all of the characters in the parade, on the street, in line at the restaurants....but as we had no event passes we just had to walk back. Next year we will take Zeke back and maybe let him wear a costume. We saw lots of teeny Spidermen, Little Mermaids, and fairies in the crowd enjoying an earlier Halloween.
