Finally, some photos of Zeke's belated birthday party two weeks ago...other than of the cake! We almost had a repeat of the first time we tried to have Zeke's party: I was a little under the weather and there was a tornado watch the night before and then rain the day of. Still, the party prevailed and we had five little guests come over for a little cake and a little mayhem in the early afternoon. Zeke had a great time! At the party, he was laughing and dancing and singing. After the party, he kept singing, "Happy day oooooo Zee!" ("Happy birthday to Zeke!").

My hope had been that it would be a beautiful day and that we could just send the toddlers out of doors to play in the yard. I also had this idea about decorating some large furniture boxes as train cars. Rain cancelled the former and the time spent decorating the cakes derailed the latter. The toddlers still had a good time though going through Zeke's toys, playing at the train table, and drawing on the (paper covered) coffee table and easel. Here are Parker and Zeke at the coffee table. We had lots of snacks, and the toddlers took home a train whistle, bandanna and personalized frame with train on it. On some level, it feels a little extravagant to have a party for a two year old when he was perfectly happy with cake with family. Zeke truly understood what the party was about, though, and he had such a great time that it just gave us tremendous joy and made the party completely worthwhile.

Toddlers might be a rowdy bunch, but they can also be the sweetest creatures. As they left, both Parker and Maya gave Zeke big hugs. A very sweet ending to the party.

How lucky Zeke is to have such good friends (and how lucky we are to have such good friends among their parents)! Thanks to Parker, Kal-El, Mateo, Maya and Shaina and their families for being part of such a good day.

These pictures speak for themselves, Jamie! Zeke had one fantastic birthday party! Zeke obviously enjoyed his party so much -- he looks positively gleeful in these photos -- and I know you and Aaron found it well worth the work -- and wait.
What a great idea to cover the coffee table and have an easel to draw on, as well. Being pro-active can certainly save the day sometimes.
Zeke's little friends are incredibly precious, and it's very sweet that they're so affectionate with one another. They must have exceptional Mommies and Daddies to be teaching them so well.
Happy Belated Birthday, Zeke!
Love,
Diane
